The Steelers are one of 32 teams that make up the NFL. This is a logo I redesigned originally in 2020 and it was an attempt to say the least. But after almost 4 years I have come back to it, a bit like my Central Coast Mariners redesign to have another crack at it. This time around I have taken more time and thought it out more made a plan and gone for a full over haul of logos, uniforms and social media branding.

 

The biggest change with the logo was a typeface change and a slight change in the way the stars look. Also dropping the blue and red. Trying to make it less like the steel industry logo and making the colour palette a little but more consistent. Looking at it next to what I created in 2020 it really shows just how far I have come not just as a designer but the ability to use my tools better. Complementing this new logo is a set of secondary logos including the steel worker from the second ever Steelers primary logo. Also included in this is the arch way of one of the many bridges in Pittsburgh. Overall this set of logos better represents Pittsburgh as a city than the single logo currently used.

If there is one extremality recognisable feature in the Steelers uniforms it is the three strip design on the sleeves. With some iteration of this design being on the uniforms since the 1934 season. So not wanting to part ways with that it had to stay. The other notable features on the new uniforms are. No more shoulder numbers and a tribute to the ‘Batman’ uniforms. For a brief period in the 60’s the Steelers made a change in their uniforms and went for a wedge like design on the front of the jerseys. Quickly dubbed the ‘Batman’ jerseys as it looked like players were wearing capes. While these jerseys are not the most loved in the fan based I am paying homage to them with a subtle rendition on the front of the new Home and Away uniforms. The third uniform does not have this feature.

Social media design is an area I am trying to improve on. I think I have been pretty successful with that on this project. Taking inspiration from designs I have seen on Instagram and other social platforms I have developed this set of templates that can be sued throughout the season. Even throwing in a bit of slander / humour on the bottom of each winning post. Bringing a bit of my own humour into it. The new hashtag BLEEDSTEEL is a tribute to the loyalist of fans who have stuck around though the high and low and bleed the Steelers. A lot of new style social media templates over crowd the screens and make the information hard to find. I have stripped it back and only added what is needed. Things like the score when the next game is and a picture from the game. Along with the most important information of it all the Steelers Win right in the middle of the page.

 

Another cool little feature for those with a keen eye I am using the wordmark for all the other teams in the templates this is just another little thing that makes each post feel unique.

 

This project was going to be a time filler that I was going to complete in my spare time but has really taken off into something I am super happy with and is easily one of my most complete projects to date.
