Canterbury are one of the two oldest domestic cricket teams here in New Zealand playing their first game of domestic cricket in 1864 against Otago and are one of the 6 teams in the New Zealand domestic competitions. This is the rebrand for their long format teams. There will be a rebrand up soon for the T20 teams.
A call back to the past with a view for the future. Canterbury’s logo has by in large stayed the same throughout its history with minor tweaks throughout the decades. The last of these changes brought to logo to the place you see it today a very 2000’s look.
With retro yet modernised sports logos being a very common theme right now it felt right to do this for Canterbury. Using the original crest shape and elements helped keep the logo very recognisable but a few key changes were made to spacing and thickness to help it seen modern and fresh.
The List-A jersey is a nod to the Shell cup teams of the late 80’s and early 90’s with the strips running down the shirt. Truly the peak of domestic cricket in New Zealand.
This redesign is all about putting a modern spin on the past while still keeping that retro vibe around as well as keeping the storied history of Canterbury Cricket alive.
